The single most area in which African music influenced modern music is with the use of drums. The coming of slaves to America and even before that, England brought the African music to the western countries. It slowly became accepted in the early part of the 20th century which brought about the birth of Jazz and Blues in America. Another surprising fact I also reasearched was that the music Africans made for their tribal dances are used in Rock & Roll On my web page you will soon find out how African music evolved into the music today. My first song is called, "Un-Break My Heart" By Toni Braxton (1993). (Secrets) This song is actually R&B. You probably thinking that this song has nothing to do with African music BUT it does. African music influenced Jazz & Blues and the Jazz and Blues influenced Rhythm & Blues. (R&B) In this song it had some of the Jazz instraments such as the trumpet, and it has a blues feeling because her voice is similar to the blues notes. Now in Jazz, Blues, and African music, they tell a story. She is telling a story about how she felt when she lost a loved one. My next song is called, "Go Ahead" by Alicia Keys (2008).(As I Am) This song is R&B. But to me it sounds as though it has Rock & Roll instuments in it. Like my introduction said, Rock & Roll was influenced by African music also. This song has a mixture of both and also tells a story which relates back to African music.
